Koh Phayam – Again
In early January 2017 I traveled to Koh Phayam again. It was still one of my favorite obscure islands in Thailand, and it hadn’t changed much in the intervening nine months. I took the night bus from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Station; 470 Baht to Ranong. It arrived about 5:00am in a pouring rain! WTF? It had been sunny the day I left BKK. The rain was down to a drizzle as I waited for the jet boat at the Ranong Pier.
No cars allowed and I stayed at PP Land once more. It’s quite isolated, even by Koh Phayam standards, and I appreciated it even more after I had a chance to see the more populated beaches.
January is usually the dry season in Thailand, and the best time of year to visit the islands. Alas, this year a major storm went by, causing cloudy weather, storms and rain for most of the time I was there. There were a few days of merely cloudy weather. The first of which I used to wander around the area near PP Land.
A few days later the rain stopped again, and I was actually glad that the day was cloudy, since I went for a long hike halfway around the island and it would have been a hot and sweaty trip if the tropical sun had been burning down on me. As it was, stopping for the home-made Vegan coconut ice cream on my way back was an unexpected treat.
When I got back to PP Land, I saw a cat on a cat and had to take one final photo.
